So here are my top reasons why I love using Google Classroom.
- Organization - Google Classroom makes it easier for you and your students to stay organized. Students can also find what they need easier because it is in one convenient place and they don't have to search through their drive.
- Make-Up/Missing Work - Google Classroom allows you to put ownership back on the students for make-up and missing work. Just direct students to their Google Classroom to find the missing work. No more extra trips to the copier.
- Student Access to Notes - Posting notes to Google Classroom is a great practice. It ensures that students have access to the information they need wherever they are.
- Grading-on-the-Go - Google Classroom has an app that I have downloaded on my phone. So if I am at my kid's tee-ball practice, I can grade while waiting on the sidelines. It also makes it easy for me to respond to any questions my students may leave in the comments of an assignment.
- Parent Email Summary - Parent communication is important, and I love anything that makes it easier. You can send your parents an invite through Google Classroom to get daily or weekly updates. Google creates and sends these reports themselves so there is nothing you have to do after the initial invite. These summaries include announcements, grades, and due dates. It is not a complete replacement for teacher communication, but it is nice to have another layer.
- It is Green - Google Classroom means fewer paper copies. It saves trees, it saves money, and it saves time since you don't have to deal with as many copier jams.
What benefits do you feel like Google Classroom provides teachers and students? Feel free to leave them in the comments along with any questions you may have about it. Next week, we will be talking about how to organize your Google Classroom.
