I recently wrote about my experience preparing for and taking the Google Level 1 Educator Certification test. Today, I am going to do the same for Level 2.
How did I prepare for the test?
My preparation for this test was very similar to how I prepared for Level 1. I just took a little bit more time.
- I started at the Google Teaching Center, but instead of jumping to the end of lesson quizzes, I read and work through the lessons. I am glad I did this because I learned about some Google Tools I didn't know about such as Tour Builder and new ways to use Google Products I am familiar with such as creating hyperdocs.
- I then downloaded proficient checklists for the Level 2 test to see what areas I might need to practice. I recommend Shake Up Learning's Level 2 Matrix and or this checklist from Eric Curts.
- I didn't find a YouTube playlist I like near as much as the Brett Petrillo one I recommend for Level 1. Instead, I looked up videos on specific skills I didn't feel as confident with. Specifically, I watched this video about appointment slots and this one going over pivot tables. I wish I had more videos to recommend but I think the Brett Petrillo videos were beneficial for both exams.
Level 1 Exam vs. Level 2 Exam
The Level 2 exam is also 180-minutes (3 hours) long, but this one costs $25. The test is the same format as Level 1 except I had more multiple-choice questions this time. I had about the same number of scenarios as Level 1, but they didn't have as many parts. The longest scenario had four parts. It took me 2-hours to go through the test, and then another 30 minutes for me to go back and double-check all the questions and scenarios.
As far as difficulty spike, there isn't much of one. I did think the multiple-choice questions were slightly harder on Level 2. My biggest issue with them was that I felt like the answer choices didn't fit. I took much longer on this part than I did during Level 1. However, I think that Level 2 scenarios were easier.
Still Want More Help?
My biggest frustration preparing for both exams was the lack of resources for the scenarios part of the exam. There are a lot of free resources for the multiple-choice questions such as Quizlet, and there are a lot of expensive boot camp classes offered. But, there are very few cheap options if you just want to practice scenarios.
So, I decided to create a resource that provides teachers with 5 Level 1 and 5 Level 2 Scenarios. These are the original scenarios that I created, but they are formatted like the scenarios on the test. The biggest difference is I don't provide you with a bank of premade resources like the test does, so you will have to create more documents from scratch during this process. However, I did loop documents you make for one scenario back into other practice scenarios. (Plus, creating your own documents provides you with even more practice.)
